Doctor Aline Chrétien

I graduated from the Ecole Nationale de Toulouse in 2012, after an internship at Petits Animaux de Compagnie, I worked for several years in the Toulouse area.

In 2015, I moved to the UK, where I spent 3 years. I was lucky enough to work in a family-run structure, with caring colleagues. Of course, I had to learn a new language, but also a new culture, in which the pet is a fully-fledged member of the family. It was an extremely enriching experience. It made me realize that it was human contact, which is omnipresent in the veterinary profession, that was closest to my heart.

I moved back to the Pays Basque in 2018. I've done a lot of locum work, and held various salaried positions in veterinary clinics in the region.

My Values

During the 15 years I spent working in conventional structures, I searched in vain for a way of working that would bring me closer to patients and their carers. I became aware of the shortcomings of clinical care: once a diagnosis has been made and treatment prescribed, people are left to their own devices to apply all these recommendations. The need for in-home support is particularly acute in the case of chronic or incurable illnesses, where the carer takes on the role of caregiver for the animal, sometimes out of obligation. The human-animal relationship is undermined by the administration of daily treatments, at times when people's only wish is to enjoy the time they have with their companion.

This is how the idea of setting up as an itinerant veterinarian, working from home, came about. Being able to assess an animal in its environment, taking the time to talk to others and building a relationship of trust with animals and their carers are now my top priorities.
