PALLIATIVE CARE

What is palliative care?

This refers to all the care that can be given to an animal suffering from a severe pathology, whether temporary, such as after spinal surgery; chronic, such as kidney failure; or incurable, such as generalized cancer .

The aims are many: to stabilize the disease, or at least the symptoms; to limit pain, discomfort or anxiety; to provide moral support for the animal's family and friends.

Maintaining quality of life is at the heart of this unique approach.

First of all, we'll review your pet's medical history, including all recent test results, as well as past and current treatments. Next, we'll take stock of your pet's needs, as well as your own: what are your expectations, what quality-of-life criteria are essential for your companion in the family context in which he lives?

I then carry out a full clinical examination, paying particular attention to any signs of discomfort or pain your dog or cat may be experiencing. I'll encourage you to become aware of any symptoms that may indicate discomfort, so that you can monitor any changes.

The environment is also assessed, so that certain adjustments can be made to make life easier for your companion.

We'll then set up a treatment plan tailored to your situation: is an under-the-skin infusion of benefit to your pet? If so, would you like to do it yourself, or would you like me to come and administer it regularly? How many treatments does your feline need? Is it easy to take? Should certain treatments be prioritized? Should the form of administration be changed?

I remain available to provide follow-up according to your needs, by e-mail or in person. I provide you with a range of tools (questionnaire or videos) to help you become an active participant in your pet's care.

And when, despite everything, the disease progresses, or your companion's condition deteriorates, I can be there to accompany him at the end of his life.
